Food Review : Hong Kee Dim Sum, Taman Connaught Cheras (Non-Halal)

During the break last month, I had the opportunity to try out one of the newer dim sum place in Taman Connaught, Cheras. My wife and I wanted to try out this dim sum place for some time coz it's one of the air-conditioned ones.

Of course, some might say it doesn't beat the usual open air dim sum places with trees over our heads and sometimes leaves dropping by. However, it was already almost 12pm lunchtime when we reached there and the sun was shining brightly indeed. So, I would say thank goodness for this air-conditioned restaurant :P

Anyway, back to the dim sum at hand, since it was only the two of us .. we managed to try out a few dishes. First was the 'loh mai kai' or glutininous chicken rice (translated literally). It was soft and oily, as with most 'loh mai kai'. The taste was alright, same as most 'loh mai kai's. Next up was the 'siew mai' which was great. I would say each individual piece was of medium size (as compared to some of the other siew mais i have eaten such as Min Kok in Seremban). The taste was tender and succulent.

After that came the fried dumplings and prawn wantan. Both of this dishes tasted good, especially with the mayo sauce. As with most dim sum places I go to, I ordered the prawn chee cheong fun and it didn't disappoint. There were adequate pieces of prawn mixed within the flour, the soya sauce was light and the sambal that came with it complemented well.

In terms of ambience and space, it was conducive as far as dim sum places go. However, since the waiters were quite busy, I had to serve myself with the dim sum cart which was parked nearby my table. The decorations were nice and reminded me of Tai Thong or Hee Lai Thon.
For your information, this restaurant also serves lunch and dinner.

They are non-halal and looking at the front cover of the menu, they also serve 'pun choy', the expensive variety with abalone, prawn and scallops. Other dishes such as suckling pig is also offered.
